I personally wouldn't put any additives in the tank at all, I know they can help sometimes with petrol motors, but I'd really not like to drop anything into my CDTi's tank.

My car has 80,000 on the clock and starts and runs fine, but do you allow a couple of seconds for the glow plug warning light to go off before you start the motor, especially when cold?

thanks for the advice staying cear of additives i will knock that idea on the head

i always allow for light to go out first so that should not be the problem

i have just come for a 2.0 hdi 306 and that was sweet on start up

any other ideas what it might be as im not sure

Not sure mate, my car sometimes even fails to start if I don't wait for the light, but if I do it starts sweetly & runs fine straight away.

If you just bump this thread up the list later tonight, there are stacks of blokes who know the veccy's much better than I do that will have some advice.

Sorry mate, are you saying it struggles to start or, once started it struggles to run?

Is there much smoke from the exhaust on start up?

and all your fluids (oil, water etc) are OK?

If they are OK, I would say there's nothing to worry about. I'll have a close listen to mine in the morning.

    Thumbs up

    Hi Baz,

I might be wrong here: But as yours is a CDTi - it is 'direct' diesel common rail - you shouldnt have to wait for a glow plug - it should fire up straight away.....

The symptoms you describe sound like overfuellling or lack of Air on starting. Chuggy rough running normally happens when the engine has a tuning box and the colder ambient temps cause too much fuel to reach the engine.

Does the engine clear after a gentle rev? Check the Air filter - for dirt and or blockages.

As for using additives - I swear along with others on here that using them is a requirement. A friend who has 30 plus years in Diesel marine trade always tells me to treat the fuel every other fill up and every 10K put a injector cleaner in with the fuel. Just my opinion - not gospel.

    Cheers - Matt

    hi matt

    thanks for the tips

yes after a gental rev its fine so i will have a peep in the airbox see if it full of ****e is it worth me changing it to a K AND N filter?

as far as im aware its never have a tuning box on

as for additives/ injector cleaner what do people recomend , i will do my homework and decide if to use it or not
