One on the offside of the vehicle.

Done like this for safety reasons, so following vehicles can clearly see a brake light in inclement conditions. There is a bulb in the opposite fog light, which is a handy spare for any other taillight.

Some members have ran a wire from the "good side" to the other and they then both work as you have the bulb and fittings on both sides, but only the offside has the wires.

I have fed a wire across from one side to the other and they both work ok. I think its more important to be seen in very dense fog. so imo i think 2 is better than 1.

am i right in thinking that if ther bulb in the good ones goes then due to canbus, the ecu uses the spare fog on the other side (probably wrong)

As long as we all remember to switch them off when it's no longer dense fog. Found it amusing (read "annoying") to drive home behind a Golf tonight in a light snow shower... all the fog lights were ablaze - but visibility was down to about a mile so maybe they felt it was worthy of the dreaded fog light.

Seems to be more of an affliction of the older Vauxhall & Jap car driver, who switch the fog lights on, then forget about them for a couple of weeks... at least the newer cars go off each time the lights do!

End of thread hijack - you may continue!

I think if the brake lights fail, it will use the parking light instead. I might be totally wrong too tho'

Think you may be wrong, chunkster....there's no wiring to the N/S fog light bulb, so there's no way the ECU could light it up.
