    Funny you should say that. Mine in installed in the boot and I have no idea how loud or what it sounds like! Not that I want to tempt fate!!

    That's good to know. Surely Thatcham wouldn't catorgarise it as a Cat 1 when it's so quiet?

    Leave your windows down and lock the car. Wait 30 secs for the alarm to set and stick your arm in the window and wave around to set off the alarm.

    You'll be somewhat surprised at how useless the alarm is!!

    First time mine went off (left a window open) my neighbour's son came and told me that it was had gone off. The car was about 20m away and I didn't hear it inside! My previous Astra G (with standard Vx alarm) was way louder!

    Interesting point! I have a feeling the Thatcham categorisation only deals with how secure etc the alarm/immobiliser is - nothing to do with the loudness of the siren. But you've now got me wondering and I'm going to have a look and see if I can find the Thatcham spec....

    Here we go....

    Category 1
    Passenger Cars, LCV, HGV, Plant, Motorcycles
    ELECTRONIC ALARM AND IMMOBILISER

    * Alarm
    Perimeter detection
    Ignition detection
    Passenger compartment movement detection OR glass break and inclination detection
    Audible warning with battery back-up power supply
    * Immobiliser
    Passively set
    Isolates a minimum of two operating circuits or systems, or a minimum of one operationally relevant vehicle control unit with coded intervention

    Just needs to be an audible warning with a battery back-up power supply (in relation to the siren) with no specification of loudness.

    I asked my dealer this and I've been told you can't - it's all wired into the CanBus with no option to make it louder. Anyone know differently? If there's any way of making it louder then I'll be straight back down there to get it done!
