Yes we all stepped out unscathed, bas***d french boy racer in a Mk4 Polo, crossed over in front of me and gave me approx 1.5sec stopping time,if I hadn't swerved to try to avoid him, wouldn't have damaged the Signum so badly!!!!!!!

Just concerned about fixing/possible payout from insurance, heard all the horror stories before.......many times in fact.

Don't know for deffo but I assume you are fully comp? If so they should repair/payout on your Siggy first & deal with blame & claims after. Just gather as much evidence as poss.

At least you all walked away, could have been much worse, you can't buy your health.

Sounds to me like you should be ok, your insurance will fight your corner. Let them take the stress!!

I had the misfortune of being involved in what sounds like a similar incident a couple of weeks ago (albeit in the UK).

Some things I didn't realise until after the event:

    1. Thankfully, there were a number of witnesses. I was told by the police at the scene that my insurance company would have access to all of the necessary details. While this is strictly true, what they didn't tell me was that this information wouldn't be available until after the police report is published, and as my local collision unit is understaffed this could take quite a few weeks. Apparently, if the police decide to prosecute, the witness details won't be available until after the case is heard, which could take months.

    2. I have Legal Cover (i.e. Uninsured loss recovery). I thought that this meant that my insurance company would attempt to recover my excess, etc at the same time as recovering their own costs, but it doesn't appear to work like that. The insurance company only recover their own costs. The legal cover is basically an additional insurance policy that funds a separate company to recover my uninsured losses. At this stage it looks like both pursue the case completely independently.

You should be ok as long as you informed them you were going abroad and had confirmation back from them.

As long as everybody came out of it ok thats far more important.

As luck!!!!!,would have it the day before I left UK,I checked 'small print' and found cover was reduced out of this country,so I rang Esure and upped cover for Holland,Belgium and France, cost £29,but could well be the best money I've ever spent,so beware you continental cruisers, this is how they must give cheaper upfront quotes.....
