just heard in the new that car tax is set to double in 2 years.
i belive its for 1.6 litre onwards so most wont escape the tax.
my tax now would jump to £400 a year just coz the goverment want to save a seedling.

I'm hoping it's the biggest guys first, circa 300g CO2/Km range...plus that will probably be on new cars registered after 1st April 07.
never ever thought i would pay more for tax than i do for insurance
If that happens the Meriva is going.
Cannot justify paying £360 for a car that sits on the drive 4 days a week and covers less than 4k miles a year.
Looks like another idea by Labour to get themselves voted out,
It is a bit premature to decide what Gordon's GOING to propose on Wednesday isn't it?
Hasn't been annouced, and if it is actuality then Labour may have a bit of a problem with voters in future.
So glad I have just renewed my Tax this morning
What I saw today talked about 'the most polluting cars'. If that means those in the highest tax group (G - over 225gm/Km of CO2), then the V6 petrols will suffer (why should V6 diesels escape?). And would be for new registrations only.
Sounds like political suicide to me - the idea of hammering 1.6's is ludicrous. They should levy a tax on those who stutter along in a 40 limit at speeds varying between 15 and 30 miles an hour, holding conversations with sprogs in the back, spewing out CO2 in their smaller-engined vehicles.
I guess the government has to find another captive source of tax to recoup the fall in tax income from smokers, to finance promises they never keep.
The motorist is as always an easy target, and they will say it is to help reduce the global warming, they are trying to be a green party....... they certantly are green if they think we will belive them. We will soon see on wednesday what they have in store for us, No doubt we will not be any better off.
