    Default Rust in tailgate

Hi all, just noticed a few small rust spots starting to bubble up on the side water run off area under the hatch on my vectra. Is this common or a symptom of living near the ocean and having to park outside. Will sanding back and applying some sort of anti rust paint save me some headaches later on?

It is usual for cars that like near the ocean to rust quicker than cars that like say 50 miles inland.. it's the salt in the water in afraid.... but, treat it now with some rust converter and some good quality car paint ( not the aerosols that vx/Holden sell) and it should be fine again..You might want to consider wax injecting the cars cavaties and void as well to help it fight the sea air..

My Grandmother lived on the east norfolk coast and we couldn't keep up with the rust forming on her relativly new cars.. and she was 1200Yds inland..

That, and more regular washing to keep rinsing the salts off the car..

Is it possible to get an anti-corrosive treatment from a bodyshop? For example http://tectyl.valvolineeurope.com/index.asp has such products.

Here in Finland the road salt is major problem for the underbody (and also for the paintwork) during the winter season from October till May. People who want to take good care of their car can arrange such a treatment in a specialized anti-corrosion bodyshop.

Thanks for the reply people, weird one this, after using a bit of wet and dry to sand the rust off, it turns out the rust that was there before didn't penetrate down past the next level of paint, after filing the rust off , im left with what appears to be a smooth rustless undercoat type of surface.
