3rd place playoff shown on ITV, they called the football team "Holland" - but shouldn't it be "Netherlands"?
Isn't Holland a region within Netherlands, so are they wrong to refer to the national team by the name of a province?

I've always thought it to interchangeable, same as calling them dutch.
I've always been a Netherlands supporter, their football is always entertaining. Gutted to see them 3rd, they certainly deserve that final spot more than Argentina.
Poor Brazil being thrashed twice on their home turf
We can call them what ever, but like you say, their style of football is excellent, maybe england should adopt that way of playing and they may progress in russia 2018. But ive always heard them known as the dutch squad, holland or the netherlands, its all according who is commentating on the day...
Its only like England... ****e, jokers, dillusional are all interchangable terms other countries use for us, when it comes to football (and occasionally in European politics)
Not really bothered about the football team (was just an example of the poor usage) - the terminology http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands_(terminology)
It appears to be as wrong to call the country Holland as it is to call England "London".
BBC (one of the best news channels in the world) always call it Netherlands. ITV (tabloid nonsense) call it Holland, because they haven't bothered to check the what proper name is; very poor for a TV broadcast.
