Default Emergency - Please Help - Boot Won't Shut

    Hi all,

I hope someone can answer this quickly,

my bossess car - a 06 plate 1.9CDTi SRi - the boot will not shut. There is nothing stopping it and it will close so the panels are level, but wont actually lock, so the boot will spring open when and as it likes. Weve tried unlock and lock on the key, on the door with the ignition on, engine on etc but no luck. The catch is free on the boot door and moves okay when prodded by a key - has anyone any suggestions as its stuck in the car park with £30k of survey gear in it!!

    Cheers

oh forgot to say its hatchback.

have a look at the lock with it open - is it stuck locked ? happened to me on a car once (wifes fiesta I think) and it was a jammed lock, I had activated the lock when the boot was open and it wouldnt shut. I used the key not the remote and some wd40 to free it up - remember you will have been trying to slam it so may have jammed the lock a bit.

right i had this problem.. the way i got around it was to keep shutting it until it locked.. you can offer something up the size of a screwdriver to test it.. Hold the screwdriver horizontal into the latch as it would be if you was to shut it. Push it up and see if the latch bites and locks... then release with the boot switch... i found after doing this it would lock again for a while... Vx told me it was due to air pressure in the cabin at first!!! 2nd time i went back i stuck to me guns and asked for a new boot latch.... Fitted it myself and not had any trouble since (touch wood)..

Cheers Dean, we tried that but the latch wont stay put. I think whatever the thing is that keeps that latch in place (solenoid?) has gone. The light id on the dash all the time, so may its sensor thing tellign the electrics that the boot isnt shut.

I had this a few weeks ago...
The car had been in for the tailgate fault, had to phone the dealership back on getting home

    Raise the tailgate
Insert a screwdriver into the hole next to the lock and PUSH
Insert the key into ignition, turn to electrics on, press tailgate unlock button, remove key from ignition
The lock motor should now be heard (which it was)
    Lower tailgate and close

If the tailgate does NOT lock the motor and/or electrics have failed, and to bring the car straight back
However, it worked for me, and the lock has worked correctly ever since

    ok, anyone any ideas?

i can only see 2 holes near the lock, one accessed via a bung in the interior trim, the device behind the trim only seems to rotate. the other hole seems to be a drain hole.

couldnt be bothered playing around with the lock any longer, so i stumped up £42 for a new one from VX, quicker & easier in the end, thats if anyones interested.
