Question Off the shelf PC or self build ?

OK I built my PC and now its time to replace it.

Do I buy one, considering Asus M11AA that runs an Intel i7 processor and have a SSD added????

    Or

Do I build one again. I'm leaning towards a PC based on Asus z97 board, i7 cpu, ssd etc??

I have two young sons and I want a system that is future proof.

    Thoughts and suggestions please.

    Thanks,

    Andy.

I would build one to your own spec, your own choice of brands & requirements. It is more fun even though it might be expensive.

Build your own, I'm going to do that with my next one. Off the shelf PC's from my experience are crap.

I think I could build a Z97 based i7 PC for the same price I could buy an average inferior motherboard based i3 or i5 system off the shelf

Building usually works out cheaper than buying and u get exactly what you want, I find it all depends on what you want the pc for. If its just for basic home use, ie surfing, emailing n word processing then tbh you may aswell buy off the shelf, if your aiming more towards gaming I'd build my own, though for gaming I would lean more towards an amd processor than the intel

    Agree completely!

Retired now, built many absolutely top spec PC's in my time, but I just wouldn't bother now.

Whatever you build now (at huge expense), in a couple of years time an entry level machine will probably blow it away. Been there, done that ...

And I'm virtually certain my advice will be ignored.

I guess unless you want to play the latest games, then a budget pc from Ebuyer would do you.

Agree with some of the above comments. There is a satisfaction in choosing your own components and building your own, but you simply cannot future-proof it. They are a depreciating asset that dates rapidly as technology moves on, it's as simple as that.

I've built my own for about the last 10-12 years, and I dread to think what I've spent on them, literally thousands. Will I do it again when the time comes that my current one needs replaced.....yes, I probably will. Personal choice really.
