Default Are these filters any good ??

I'm thinking of getting one of these for my 2.2 SRI Auto :

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-AIR-FILTER...QQcmdZViewItem

Now I'm not really into modding, but I know a lot of guy here are. Is it worth it ? Where would the benefit be ?? (Apart from the 10 year/million mile warranty ? )

benefit is its a high air flow filter, offers great protection but virtually no resistance to the air flow. do the airbox mod and throw a K&N panel filter in. when you change your old filter you will see its only dirty on one half because the airbox has a plastic cone fitted to divert the air (anyone know why ?) it unclips to open up the whole airbox to the filter.

Thanks Rob. Being a high air flow, does that mean more horse power, or better mpg ?

Sorry to ask, but I'm new to making any performance changes. I don't want to go mad at this stage as the car is still under warranty until Jan 2008 but a filter change of this nature is hardly going to alarm my insurance firm

    Regards.

even with the 'airbox mod' i still found that when it came to cleaning the K&N filter last week it was still MUCH dirtier on one side than the other.

I've been checking the +/- of the K&N filters. I'm mainly concerned about the filtration efficiency compared to the original GM filter.

    Some tests&reviews:

    http://www.max-boost.co.uk/max-boost...ilter_test.htm

    http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm

    http://www.gadgetonline.com/AirInduction.htm

    http://offroadpakistan.com/blog/tech...rs_work_1.html

According to these articles, it seems that the K&N filters passes more dust than the original GM paper filter.

Has anybody long term experinences about the filtration efficiency?

I've also heard that the original GM filter box with GM filter, after modding, would be efficient (=allow enough airflow) up to 300HP(?)

all air filters let very small bits in, they just get burned up and spat out. When did you last destroy a piston / ring / head ? More worrying is that i breath without an air filter !!

Turbo diesels use a lot of air - what do you drive ?

Of course some dust&dirt will get through the filters, but my point was how these K&N and similar products compare with the OEM in filtration?

I drive 3.2 V6, original filter in place. I have also the cabin filter
