    Cool Mods and Insurance

Just thought I'd pass this little gem onto anyone who doesn't know already -

My renewal quote with Direct Line was a cool £700 when I told them about the mods I was planning to do - brake upgrade, eibach springs and a remap to approx 190bhp. I phoned around, and unsuprisingly, Adrian Flux came up trumps with £475 fully comp.

    BUT....

My little (well, younger) bro is a member of the Ford Focus Owners Club, who have a deal with an insurance company called Chris Knott, and he raves about them. So, I gave them a ring. Basically, they only accept 'sensible' drivers - with a good driving history, responsible lifestyle, etc etc, and they take it as read that if you belong to an owners' club (such as this) you're far more likely to look after your car and drive sensibly.

As a result, they guarantee to beat any genuine quote by 10%.

My premium for next year now stands at £429.99, with protected no claims, like for like cover on all mods, legal aid, the works.

Definitely worth a call next time you're up for renewal. AND...they're nice people on the end of the phone, who don't ask what a remap is.....

Number is 0800 917 2274 - but make them the last call you make..

Excellent News, always worry when i have to call the insurance company, i currently with churchill, who when i added my private plate to my car charged me £90! I thought how does it make my car worth any more?

So do you have Chris's number? Might be worth a call.

    Nice! - good to know!

I would have thought a brake upgrade would have made no difference, not added to increasing it, as you're able to stop quicker and therefore less likely to hit anyone up the chufter! Although their argument would probably be, being an insurance company, that you're therefore more likely to have somebody hit you up your chufter by stopping more quickly!!

Obviously if it was some expensive brake setup like AP stuff, I'd understand it as it's a lot more expensive to replace if it gets damaged.

lol - yeah, i don't know exactly how they judge these things - its possible they may see bright red calipers as a burglar magnet and hike the premium accordingly.

D - who would be the right person to approach to see about having a proper affiliation between Vectra-C.com and Chris Knott? they've got a list of dozens of approved owners clubs....

Elite - original post edited to include that info

Used to use Chris Knott for our Escort insurance. They wanted £990, less then The AA who wanted £1500.

Stomached it for a year or so, then Sharon went to the Cosmo Show in London, bumped into a Diamond stall, £625 Renewal.

Mind you, this was on a 1.8 XR3i 16v. And I was just 21 with no no claims. Still probably the bestest car we've had...
