    Default Vectra 3.0 CDTI Engine

    Hi, new to the site

I currently own a Nissan Almera 2.2 dCi which is far too rattly of an engine for my ears

I have been looking at a variety of cars to replace mine with and one is the Vectra 3.0 CDTI. My question for those who own one is how does the engine sound? Is there much diesel rattle/injector tick etc? What about at low revs, eg, 1k-2k?

    Thanks

I know you get alot of diesel owners saying "Doesn't sound like a diesel does it"

The 1.9 is very good and quiet, but you still know your in a diesel, but now I have my 3.0, you get a slight diesel knock on tick over, and I mean slight, but when your driving, it really does sound like a V6 petrol.

At low revs on cold, this engine sounds like any other diesel, but with a sharper tone
At low revs on hot, this engine sounds quite different, much quieter and has a pulsating noise to it

At low speed the engine sounds just like any other diesel
However from inside the car it sounds like a petrol V6

At high speed the engine is almost silent, unless you change to a low gear and floor it
3rd gear at 50mph is probably about as noisy as you can get it, for accelerating up to 70mph!
At 2000 to 2500 rpm the best noise is the turbo, great with the windows down, and that just shows you how quiet the engine is, as in some common rail diesels you would struggle to hear the turbo

    Sounds good

I take it then that there is extensive sound proofing then so you don't get the clatter inside the car? (don't really care what it sounds like outside )

edit: what do you mean by sharper tone?

they sound absolutely lovely when revved... the only thing i wished i had of got when i ordered mine back then... settled for the 1.9 instead of the 3.0 but oh boy i wish i'd of gone with the 3.0. the 1.9 is a great little engine though. I've no complaints.

How is the reliability of them?

Are the seats comfortable and supportive?

When I was buying mine, I had a test drive of a 1.9 CDTI and the 3.0 V6 CDTI which I now have
A few months prior to this I had been given a hire of a 1.8 for a week while the rear bumper on my Mondeo was being repaired, all three were SRi models

The 1.8 was gutless, fine at cruising, but there was no oomph to the engine

The 1.9 CDTI was a vast improvement, and felt almost like my old Vectra B SRi 140, and very similar to my own Mondeo Ghia 2.0 TDCI which I then had
The diesel engine was quite noticeable at cold and at slow speed
Mid speed acceleration was very good
At 50mph the tyres could be heard more than the engine

    The 3.0 V6 CDTI was a blast!
Just comparing the size of the brake discs had me worried
Again, at cold from outside it sounded about the same as the 1.9 CDTI, but there was a completely different tone to it
Inside there was definitely less noise

Internally, no difference between all three, except the 1.8 did not have a traction control button, and I don't remember the 1.9 CDTI having one
The drivers seat is very good, with height and rake adjustment
It's not as good as the Nissan Primera drivers seat, but it certainly better than the Mondeo Ghia that I previously had
Sadly the front passengers seat does not have any adjustment, except height
The rear seats also aren't as good as the old Vectra B SRi
However, the rear passengers get air vents, under feet heating, and cup holders

I bought my 05 reg June 3.0 V6 CDTI for £10,000 on 10K miles, under Network Q in November 2006
I then added the Complete Protection Plan, for 40K miles a year for 3 years at £1140, which extends the warranty from 60K miles up to 130K miles and includes all servicing, brake pads, and discs

I've done 10K miles in 3 months, and have found a small number of faults, most of which the dealer has been able to fix, and recommends rebooking in at next service so they can spend more time looking at them
    The manuals were replaced
    The rear ashtray was replaced
The nearside wiper blade cover was replaced (cost £1.00)
I am still waiting a Service Book
There is a charcoal smell from cold
The tailgate does not close properly, requires a good wallop, NFF
The remote steering controls have an erratic fault, NFF
The indicators cancel half way through operation, NFF

The car is showing its first service (30K miles) is now due at 31K miles, when I got the car is was showing at 34K miles, about the end of May so just before the 2 years
