    Cool New shoes

Friday night about 8pm, I got 'encouraged' into a kerb, thanks to someone straddling the white line and tanking towards me, leaving no room to go anywhere else!

To cut a long story short, scuffed the alloy, and put a hole the size of a golf ball in the side wall of the tyre! So, half an hour later, with VERY dirty hands, I was back on my way with the spacesaver fitted.

Both fronts were getting low anyway, I was hoping to last a bit longer, but this seemed the ideal chance to get a pair of new tyres. So, off to my friendly local tyre place, drove in, and the first thing I saw as i opened my door? A pile of Toyo Proxes T1-R's head high! I had no preconceptions about which tyres I wanted, I've no brand loyalty or anything like that, so I asked the chap for 2 of the Toyo's.

"Sorry, mate, we don't stock them in that size"
"OK, what about those SP Sport 9000's?"
"Sorry, mate, we don't stock them in that size"
"erm, is that Conti Sport Contacts i can see over there?"
"Sorry, mate, we don't stock them in that size"
"ok, is there anything you do stock in my size?"

You get the gist of it...

Anyway, came away with 2 Goodyear Eagle F1s, £90 each fitted and balanced, so wasn't too upset in the end!

But the point of this thread....
    1. If I'd had the 314mm brakes fitted, would the spacesaver have fitted over the top?
    2. Methinks tyreweld may not quite have cut it on this occasion!! LOL

yes indeed it would, because i had to run around with a space saver whilst my rim was getting refurbed. not great, but it can handle a surprising amount of abuse, sure....it was easy to get it spinning, but it's not totally uninspiring when going round corners.

No, m8, went for the 225/45/17 instead, seeing as I had the chance.

You wouldn't believe it would you, I tempted fate ! I got a rear puncture on the way home it looks like the tyre is unrepairable this time.

It's already been repaired once when a nail was stuck in it, it's a shame because the tyre looks almost as good as new.

Now I need to get three ............

Bu66er! Bet you weren't carrying 3 spacesavers, were you? Let that be a lesson to you...

But go for 225/45, they're cheaper than 215/50 and a perfect fit.
