Default Could my dis pack be on the way out ??

This problem is not too severe for now but I can imagine it getting worse.

When I accelerate in a high gear, say from 50 in 5th, there is a slight hesitation that feels almost like a mis-fire. No warning lights have come on.

Now, it's done 53k miles and has been serviced by the dealer since new which means very little has been changed LOL it's on the original plugs but I have changed the air filter myself.

I tried running some injector cleaner through it and it runs slightly smoother but the problem is still there.

I have read about similar problems being related to the coils/dis pack, does this sound like it could be related to that or maybe just the old plugs. Is the dis pack £££'s ? if i change the plugs, should I change the dis as well ? (I think i'm right calling it the dis pack, I mean the coil thingies on top of the plugs )

    It's not due a service until July/another 10k miles.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, it's not too bad for now but it feels like something that could get worse if I ignore it.

    TIA !

it could be the DIS pack..and even though the book says they're not due yet, i'd throw in another set of plugs anyway.. bargain on about £100 for the DIS pack..

My brothers 1800 started playing up like this.. worse the hotter it got..then it went down on to 3 cylinders..DIS pack had failed.. new pack and away it went on 4 ..

it is a high load on the engine thou..asking it to pull from 50 in 5th may cause it to 'knock'.. does it still do it if you try that in 4th or 3rd??..

It's normally ok in 5th but to answer your question, pulling from 50 on to the mway in 3rd or 4th is normally ZOOOOOMMM well, as much zoom as the 1800 has LOL!

It's just the last week or so i've noticed this problem developing when doing it in 5th.

Start with plugs then and see if it improves.. If it was the DIS pack i'd expect it to misfire in every gear..

Well, i've finally manged to find the time to get the plugs. I got them this am but probably won't be able to change them until sat am, the engine will be nice a cold then too LOL

While at the dealer I asked them how much the dis/coil pack would be and they said £152 if the plugs don't sort the problem I think i'll be going to LMF for it !

Should the coil pack lift off easily or will it requrie a bit of force ?

    Cheers

I changed the plugs today and all seems well, it's certainly more responsive and a bit smoother while accelerating.

The only thing is, the plugs I took out (original) are NGK 4 electrode plugs, the ones I bought from the dealer in the week were GM 2 eletrode plugs. It seems to run well on them though !

it shouldn't affect the running detrimentally..4 electrodes plugs just have a longer service life.....
