OK – so far I have covered c3000 miles in my 55 plate 1.9 facelift CDTi 150 SRI Vec C Estate over the last 3 months. Car has done in total 19k miles. Comments so far –
Image – definitely has road presence – colour is star silver which seems to make it more visible to other road users and enhances the “big car “ feel it has. Other cars in the 3rd lane will move out of the way relatively quickly if prompted…………! It also masks the winter grime, although I do wash it at least once a week ….lol. It is however attracting a lot of stone chips on the front bumper and leading edge of the bonnet. Not sure if this is normal…?
The 17” SRI alloys look good and are easily cleaned – fancy the 18/19” snowflakes or the VXR alloys of course, however is obviously a trade off between image and ride comfort. The SRI suspension over uneven roads can feel harsh at times though and amplifies the rattles….
Performance – pre Caterman Box – disappointing to be honest – below c1700 rpm definitely sluggish and a real problem if moving out into fast moving traffic without some welly. Once warmed up and on the move however was better and more inclined to “lift its skirts”.
Post Caterman Box thing improve and performance off boost is better – still needs some time to warm up, however you are less likely to be caught off guard. On the motorway in 5th or 6th performance is excellent and you are unlikely to be bettered unless by something exotic. To early to say re long term reliability………
MPG remains around the 40-45 mark which I guess is ok for something this size and weight.
Refinement – you will never forget it’s a diesel, however is more refined than some. Noisy at times, though at speed on the motorway in 6th at c2000 rpm it is commendable quiet. Beware the automatic speed limiter however from the front passenger seat – see separate thread.
The biggest problem though seems to be the rattle from the front suspension over bumps – been into the dealer once for this however soon reappeared. TBH this is driving me slightly mad and is joined by a metallic knock from the region of the A/B pillar on speed/lateral weight shifts…
Practicality – the interior space and boot is enormous – we are moving house soon and it will come into its own. As practical family transport it probably can’t be bettered for the price. The interior cleans up easily and is well laid out. The dash/ergonomics are good and practical – interior lighting is excellent with node below…
Mods – so far done the map lights & sunglasses holder, Caterman Box, mudflaps, interior LEDs & submarine lighting, hardwired TOMTOM mount and power supply, airbox mod, alloy dustcaps, rear parking sensors. Looking to do a rear spoiler (estate), chrome loading edge strip and chromed front bumper mesh.
Overall I would say 7.5 out of 10 – the rattles from the front lose it a couple of points, as does the slight remaining sluggishness post the Caterman Box off boost.
