    Default Wheel bearings

Only 20k miles and already the car is in for front nearside wheel bearing replacement. It's a 04 Sri, the symptoms being a faint humming noise which got steadily worse over the last few days to the point I was worried to drive the car incase the bearings ceased. Mechanic pointed out this seems to be a common problem and should be covered under warranty.

    Hi Steve,

After having the wheel bearing replaced (under warranty) it resolved the loud humming noise, done roughly 15000 miles since and it's been ok. I would have preffered both wheel bearings on the front to be replaced at the same time but they would'nt do this under warranty, this means I now have one newer than the other.

    Regards, Allan.

    Hi Alan,

Just dropped my car into local vauxhall dealer and i asked the same, Can they replace the drivers side front bearing aswell they said they could only check to see if their is any play in the wheel and not physicaly check it. which is no use what so ever because when i took my car in for them to check the passenger side bearing the mechanic checked the play in the wheel and said bearing was ok, so i said get in the car with me and listen too this i only got too 30 mph he said yes its youre bearing.
Thanks very much for the rerply Regards Steve.

    Hi guys (& gals)
Just discovered this forum, and am relieved to find this thread as Ihave been having the same problem.Local dealer said it was my tyres, which though almost ready for changing I was trying to get the most out of (they're 235x35x19's and are expensive!). All tyres changed -no difference. It's going back to dealer Thursday, and I may give them a clue to the solution to the problem.

had BOTH my fronts changed "as a precaution sir" at 19000 it still seemed noisy to me so took it back and they told me it was the tyres (bridgestone potenza 245x45x18s) £496 to replace them and they would guarantee a noise reduction i said no thanks i would live with the noise if the car is ok. have to say 2000 miles later noise hasn't got any worse so i assume they were correct don't understand why vx fit such noisy tyres as standard though.

Good news! The guys at the dealers replaced front nearside bearings and I cannow hear myself think again! Unless it was the cogs in my head making allthe noise in the first place!
    Cheers from the Bear
