Problem was it initially felt like it was tightening when rebellion was trying to undo it and I had a vague (and wrong) memory of it being reverse thread, hence the panicky phone call and post on here

Still, all good, it came off in the end with no issues.

For anyone needing this thread in the future, you remove the bolt by turning it.

Pop the engine in 2nd gear too if the engine starts to turn before you start to wind it out. Lefty loosey

I know this is an old thread but if you Google "Z19DTH crank bolt" you'll end up here.
I had to change my crankshaft pulley yesterday and both my engine and the donor were left hand thread bolts.
We wrecked the donor engine by snapping the bolt trying to undo it the right handed way.
    Take care people!!!!

You're creating confusion mate. All the posts in this thread apart from yours are referring to the Z20NET engine. I know that because I was there undoing the bolt when Ian H had his lefty-loosey-or-tightey panic attack. Your post on the other hand refers to the Fiat diesel.

So, to clarify: Z20NET, Saab engine, B207L, etc = standard thread for the crankshaft pulley bolt.

The Fiat Z19DTH = who the hell knows what thread they put in the day that engine was manufactured, probably depends on how many cappuccinos the factory operative had that day.
