Angry Alloy wheels :( Pee'd off

Received a set of Fox RS10's yesterday after waiting a week, went to put them on, started with one, whilst doing it up the paintwork started coming off from inside the bolt hole and then started coming off on the spoke... thought that aint right so took it off, and was very pee'd off. rung the company up this morning and was telling them and they are claiming that i may have used a too thick of socket, i said look mate i tried my origional vx one and realised it was happening then used a smaller and thinner one and it still happened, he said send the (wheel) back and they'll inspect it,only thing is, I reckon it will happen to all of the wheels and also think they will try and fob me off with some ****..... where do I stand/ what do i do?

I had a set of bk166's and even though the socket was touching the bolt hole it wasn't taking the paint off, my bro who is a pro sprayer, said send em back and my mate who was a sprayer and now welder said they shouldnt do that if it is a good spray job. the bloke who I rang at wheelworx said they came from the OZ factory so their not a cheaply made wheel............

    any suggestions?

    cheers

I don't think you should try the other 3 wheels, that way your proving to them that your concerned about further damage.
Basically, if the paint is coming off then i'd say they aren't fit for the purpose, which entitles you to either a refund or replacement.

That is really bad luck, and not something you would expect to happen on new wheels. I hope you get some form of satisfactory result. No matter where the wheels come from, this obviously sounds like poor standard workmanship...I also have to agree with fil 4822

Suggest they contact the factory to see if there's been a glitch in the process there, it looks like the primers haven't held to me, even under normal bolt tightening, if you managed to damage the coating, it's a scratch not a full on peel.

I would go for a full refund.

Fox alloys are a cheaply made wheel, not got a great reputation, I would put them back for a full refund. Did you buy them with a credit card, if so you can hold them responsible as well ...

i paid on a visa electron card... I asked to change the wheels to something else and he got shirty... then said they where special order, i said no one told me they were special order. the wheel got picked up yesterday and waiting for them to get back to me. I want to change to a set of bk993... also the tires are 215/35/18... just spoke to a bloke that said the tires should be a 225/40/18 the bigger the wheel the wider the tires should be and also the speedo will 7mph out with 35 profile tires so i'll be doing 70 on speedo but car will be doing 77... not good.

Send them back mate. Tyre size is definitely wrong, as you say they should be 225/40x18. The tyres you have got will give a speedo reading error of 5.15% but will actually cause your speedo to read fast not slower. Fox aren't made by OZ, they are just imported into the country by Motorsport Wheels who are the official importers of OZ as well.

Going on what's been said, I'd send them back as not fit for purpose. Let us know how you get on!

Just for future reference, i wrap my socket with masking tape so when i take my alloys off they do not damage or scratch the inside holes.
