    Default ECU question

    Hi,

What sort of information/fault codes does the ECU hold?

For example, if you were forever driving your car and boucing the rev's off the redline - would this get recorded somewhere, and give the dealers opportunities to worm out of the warranty repair costs?

Not really a problem or an issue; just curious!

Thats what the rev limiter is there for, it does store this kinda info, but it can`t be used to refuse a claim, how you drive it is up to you ...

I'm 95% sure if you disconnect the battery overnight, all the codes will erase if anyones worried about Vx finding abuse records.

When you reconnect the battery, do you need to input any radio codes etc?

Yep, the radio code will need inputting again and probably the auto electric windows reset - does on mine anyway if I disconnect the battery for a bit.

Just a little bit of trivia...the VXR has 17 control unit chips in it...Tech 2 speaks to them all!!

Oh and don't ask me to list them!

I have the radio code in my documentation, but is it easy to input? on my works astra vans you have to press and hold two buttons on the radio then scroll through for each digit. And whats that about the windows?

Its just incase my caterman box turns up tomorrow and i get the leads crossed, i will need to reset the ECU to clear the fault lamp.

    Cheers

Sorry, I just found the "entering the code" section in my radio booklet.

But what will the windows do?

when the vec c 1.9 was new i had one towed in with a cam pully stiking out the cam cover totally ****ed the lump.........in the ecu was a over rev code .think the customer (it was a higher car) had droped from 4th to first and the revs must have gone silly high ...vx refused warantee the company had to pay for a new engine .........wont reg a code if you bounce the limiter tho as this is no where near the failure rpm of this engine .......

yes its in there for them to find

everytime error codes are wiped out its all wiped

tech 2 dosnt show them all the details

but vauxhall can copy all your ecu and it gets sent to luton and they will find out everything you have done ,,,revs top speed the lot

so if you think that by reving it guts out to get it to blow, vauxhall will know it all for the ecu.

not shore how far they are able to go back in the ecu but "gsi 3.2 " would know
