    Default My camera collection.

I've finally given in, and ordered a Canon 400D, which, according to DHL, is currently sitting at Hong Kong airport, waiting for it's flight.
It's made me think about exactly how many cameras I've got (I can never bring myself to get rid of them!). The list goes like this:

Rollei SL35m -bought when I was a student in 1978! Still works, but has a light leak. Basic, manual camera, built like a tank. Useless for wildlife photography, as the shutter's made of wrought iron (or that's what it sounds like!)
Yashica FX-3 -Another manual SLR, a bit lighter and more modern
Yashica MP-108 -Programmed exposure, motor winder. An excellent camera.
Minolta 35mm compact -got this to avoid carrying an SLR everywhere!
Canon Ixus -a design icon, lovely to handle, and about the best APS camera you could get
    My first digital!!
Nikon Coolpix 950 3.3 Megapixels, lots of nice features and a really good lense.
Canon S70 -I wanted something a bit smaller than the Nikon, but with a few more manual features. This is still a cracking little camera

Then a friend gave me his Canon Rebel 35mm SLR, which I've been playing around with and found I missed the flexibility of the SLR format, So the 400d is the next step!
I think that's it, apart from my Grandad's Kodak Folding Pocket Brownie, from 1921. It folds OK, but I can see why trousers were so baggy in the 20's -you need big pockets to fit one of these in!

    Phil

I am toying with the idea of a 400d at the moment, and was also looking at hong kong / usa , have you got any guarantee on import tax, or is it cheaper even with that ? Jessops are doing some decent deals at the moment on them ..

I have a Konica Minolta Dimage G400, I think it's about 3-4 yrs old now, 4 mega pixels and it shoots such a good picture I've not bothered to replace it with anything newer, cost about £175 new and it's not interpolated either.

Here's a couple of examples from inside Kents Caverns and Torquay model village, look closely for the humour of the model village staff in pic 2, lets see who gets it 1st.

Got a Nikon D40 when I was in Asia recently. Not only much cheaper than UK prices but came with free 2gb memory, case etc. I looked at all the other digital SLR's but stuck with Nikon on the experiences of my trusty F801 and as an added bonus, the long lenses and speedlgiht flash all fit. No autofocus for the lenses though. 6mp is good enough for the sort of snapping that I do. It is also very compact for an SLR and the battery lasts for ages

I've used Canon SLR's both film & digital for the last 8 years since my wife dropped my old Pentax on holiday, gave me the excuse to replace it! The Canon 400D is a superb entry level camera but the standard lens is a bit naff

I've found a company called Digitalrev on Ebay, who do guaranteed no duty sales. They were recommended to me by a friend, and they seem very good so far. I've saved around 50 quid on the camera.
I've heard the 400D kit lens is a bit duff, but I plan to upgrade fairly soon.
    Next to come from me:
my collection of computers. Or Pda's or just plain old junk.
