    Default Reliable Vectras

There is some talk recently on this site about their Veccie being a tad unreliable. Can I start a poll off by saying that of all the veccies I have owned or run as company cars I have had NO serious problems to talk about. Sure little niggles here and there but it has never let me down or cost me any major expense to fix etc. How many others can say this with their vectra?

Mates got a Mazda and he has had more probs with that than I have, so its not always Vauxhall that have problems.

The outfit that I work for has an all VX fleet policy for the field staff, with the managers having a free choice. My free choice was a VX and it is better built than anything I had before (including a 3 series that was so unreliable I got rid of it).

One of the early Vectras had the handbrake problem and apart from that a quick poll of the office finds a lot of satisfied users and very very few problems over a mixture of cars from 2.0 DTI to 1.9CDTI. However, one of my colleagues is on his second unreliable - basic - Audi and is really wondering why (the prestige, I say).

My VX may not have the office car park bragging rights of "look at me, I'm a senior manager" (everyone there knows what I do for a living anyway) but it is fast, comfortable, reliable, economical and loaded with goodies.

Never a single problem with mine. I'm only thinking about changing due to my ongoing midlife crisis!! (which I've been having since I was about 22 )

Never had a major problem with mine, had 2 small niggles in the last two years which have been easily sorted.
Nothing compared to the problems I've had with other supposedly better quality/prestige vehicles.

Mine was a complete nightmare for about 2 years, always losing power, dropping into limp home mode and generally misbehaving. A mechanic at my local dealer diagnosed a faulty turbo, which took VX 2 years of heel dragging before they agreed to replace it. In the mean time they replaced everything around it, switches, sensors and the like.

I wanted rid of the thing after all that, but, after a good 6 months trouble free motoring, near on 12000 miles, it's behaving impeccably. It's even going to Germany, which considering it wassn't taken more than 30 miles radius of my house for a good while, is quite something.

In conclusion, they are good cars and I will be looking to replace it towards the end of this year anyway, due to the miles it will have on it, I will be having another. Probably a 1.9 CDTi SRi XP, probably an estate, but If I change jobs to something more local, it may even be a petrol, depending on price and availability possibly even a 2.8 Elite.

What it boils down to is the support the local dealers and VX themselves give. In my case, I've made a new friend, I don't think any future problems will take long to sort!

I did 122K in my 03 Vectra, the only problems I had were early on when the hand brake failed & the heated seat switch for the drivers seat broke. Apart from usual bits being replaced as they had worn out other than that no problems at all.

My 03 SRI has 52k on it, the job i've paid for was the rear shocks. Prior to that it had the rad mounts done and the susp strut mod (still not convinced that was done right).

However, besides that it's been good and i'm growing attached to it as I normally get bored and want to change cars by now !

It feels the wear though, the gears and steering are not as tight as they were when I bought it with 11k on the clock.

Overall the Vx marque is a very good solid one, every so often someone gets a lemon though, I've had them for over 20 yrs now, parts are reasonable and fixing them is also not to hard either, a lot of the hassles I read about are from ppl who own cars with a non Vx engine in them so it's not entirely a Vx related problem, to sum up, you wont find anything for the money to beat it.
