Default How do Insurance companies work!?!

    Hi,

I received my renewal from Direct Line this morning, priced at £568.00 (now 4 years NCB) and I could protect it for £87.50.

    I'm 22 next week, and got a standard 06 Vectra 2.2direct SRI.

I thought that was a decent price from Direct Line. But natuarally, I want it cheaper so I went onto Confused.com and it worked out cheaper for me to claim I have 3yrs NCB, as apposed to 4yrs NCB protected! Some companies on the list came in at £1200 - £3200. Strange.

Lastly, does anyone know if it is possible to find an Insurer that will allow me to drive other cars, with the owners permission, on my Insurance? It's handy sometimes if mine is blocked in the drive!

    Thanks

I tried a lot of companies when i insured the vxr (I mean car ) and budget came out a waaay cheaper, have you tried them, they let you drive other cars but maybe you are too young for that option ?

That would be Fully Comprehensive insurance from any insurer.

You might be right there Tommy, probably best to email or phone prospective insurance companies to find out their policy.

You'll pay extra for having the NCB protected. That extra charge may wipe out the difference the extra years NCB makes but you'll be protected. If you stuck with the 3 years unprotected , and had an accident that was your fault, you'd lose that.

As above, you'll be able to drive other cars Third Party if you have Comprehensive cover. If those quotes above are for Third Party only, I'd say they sound a bit steep - even given your age. I may be wrong.

You may have difficulty in getting this extra cover. Legally it causes insurance companies and the police big problems.
The insurance industry has agreed collectively that this cover will be scrapped over the coming months/years.
As you have found a lot of companies have already scrapped it, even if you go the fully comp route.

As above...lots of companies don't allow this anymore. It's catching lots of people out, but many were frankly using it to take the wee-wee!

In what way? Being added to somebody's comprehensive policy as a named driver and then drive their own car (not registered in their name) on the third party cover - saving themself an extra policy cost?
