    Default Instant 20% MPG boost!

Sorry if it seems obvious, but for the first week or so with my (nearly) new SRi, I was really disappointed with the MPG - 26 around town, 32 on motorways.

My lad was messing with the computer and said "look dad, it's set for US not UK"

Then the penny dropped. One UK gallon = 1.2 US gallons. Changed the settings to UK......then.....

Bingo, an instant 20% increase in the stated figures, I'm delighted and am getting over 30 in town and something approaching 40 on motorway runs.

When contributors complain of poor MPG, maybe the first port of call should be to check their computer's set-up correctly.

Get a 1.9 CDTi and put a Tuning Box on it.

Result - slightly better performance than a standard V6 CDTi and regularly 48mpg avarage.

By my crude mpg calculations (no fancy gizmowhatsits) you were getting better with it set for US gallons on a 2.2 than I get on a 1.8!

    AJA,

the gutting thing is that I could have had a V6CDTI. It was parked next to the GSi on the forecourt. But then I didn't know about this forum, or the tuning boxes and compared to the GSi, I just didn't go... I also used to do all my own repairs and bought all the tools for the V6 engine in the GSi ( have 3 petrol v6's in the family). So it kind of swayed me...

Still, I'm a big bloke... I can take it...
