    1.9 CDTi 150

    Mods -
Only a Diagnostix UK Power Box, this is estimated to take it to 180bhp.

    Planned Mods -
    De-restricting airbox (1st Oct)
    K&N Panel Filter (1st Oct)

    Love -
The torque power. Especially on the motorway as you don't have to change down gear.
Fuel economy obviously. It's the best diesel I've driven by far without compromising economy
Turbo whistle. What a lovely noise. It often makes people turn around to see what car it is.

    Dislike -
Turbo Lag. If you're not ready for it, it feels like something is holding you back for a second
Cold start Noise. It is a little noisy first thing in the morning, but soon sorts itself it.

I think it's the complete package, with just the right mix of performance and economy, if only they could sort out the damned turbo lag. But I'm sure that can be tuned out, I just have to find the right guys to do it for me.

    Mods -
    Dragon Box. Currently testing software

    Planned Mods -
    K&N Panel Filter

Fuel economy. Urban is great but I very rarely am able to match other 1.9 claims of 55+ on runs. Mostly up to 48.
Turbo whistle. Although not hugely loud.
Increasing popularity. More diesels means more possibilties for upgrades.

    Dislike -
Turbo Lag. A real problem. If you get caught out its like someone has pulled your handbrake on. Had a few near misses already.
Low rev range. A main characteristic of a diesel but when you add on a 6sp box its round the revs in zero time. Prefer my higher reving petrol for fast standing starts.

Petrol owner sticking his nose in here! LOL

I wonder if a remap would help sort out that turbo lag?

I noticed on mine after the remap that the turbo kicks in a bit sooner and stronger. I still have trouble if I get caught in the wrong gear i.e. I'm approaching a roundabout and think I'll be okay to take it in third, someone then comes onto the roundabout and I need to brake a bit and I then find myself entering the roundabout at a much slower speed, bu99er all oomph from the engine and frantically dropping down a gear to get out of the way of the 38 tonne lorry that's bearing down on me!!

Hey, get your own thread hijacker

a remap may cause problems with the tuning boxes. I think the turbo on the diesel is quite small anyway so spins up fairly quickly, just not soon enough

Mid range power, economy. Oh, and the noise. Sort of a gruff growl

    Dislike -
Not as economical as a 4 cylinder, a bit noisy, makes the front end heavy

Probably, unless the remap was by the same manufacturer. A decent stand alone remap would, I'd have thought, also do the same thing as the boxes? i.e. inject more fuel etc.

Right. That would be one of the things a remap could do - get the turbo spinning sooner.

I'm only basing what I've said on my experience (with petrol engine). Don't know if the diesels are as remappable as petrols?

Anyway, I'll leave you oil burners alone now!

I've included some items which are not directly related to the engine - but overall package as things like the brakes and gearbox are integral to the engine's performance and abilities.

    Mods -
Pbox Power Box and K&N filter and modified airbox intake the Pbox claims 217bhp - k&n usually good for another 2bhp so call it 220 for roundness!

    Planned Mods -
Headlights to SXi darkened ones - have one - now looking for the other
Looking to do something unusual with the rear valance - but not for a while

    Love -
The torque power. Powering off roundabouts on inclines makes light work of most other traffic.
Fuel economy. Where else can you get 200+ bhp along with 46mpg?
Turbo whistle. Not as strong as in the 1.9's but its nice to hear it sing.
Shutdown sequence. When turning the car off - the slight electrical wind down noises sound like you have landed the starship enterprise.
The Public. Park it un and watch people look at it - look again - peer in the windows - look for the badge on the back and walk away. Little else at the money does that to people for 12k does it.
Brakes. - wow look at the size of the discs - and they do the job very very well.

    Dislike -
Front end weight. I cant hussle it comfortably - its a heavy lump and wants to push wide - No room for a strut brace.Smokey. Hard driving leaves opposition in no doubt you are in a diesel - but thats all in the rear view mirror!
Gearchange. It is a little notchy - probably down to the clutch and the weight/power it has to dispose of - not unpleasant but sometimes combersome.

I am enjoying the car at the moment and I like the 'Q' Car element of surprise - it is the modern Lancia Thema 8.32 - for those old enough to remember it. Insurance group 12 and this sort of performance should be illegal though!

I'm not sure I've had mine long enough to properly comment. I haven't even had it on a motorway yet!

It's a 1.9 150 and I think I'm already starting to agree with the turbo lag thing everyone's mentioning. It's press the pedal, wait a second, whoa, there we go! Seems most noticable in 2nd and least in 1st. I guess the software limits the boost in 1st gear to combat wheelspin?

    (So far) Likes:-
The fuel economy. I've done 100 miles so far and the gauge needle has just started to budge.100 miles was half a tank in the Astra!

The fact you can't tell it's a diesel from inside the car. Very good isolation from the tractor noise.

    Dislikes:-
Haven't really got any yet. Will have to see if the turbo 'pause' gets on my nerves, but my petrol car was turbo'd too, so I'm kinda used to it, even thought it wasn't as pronounced.

Off the engine subject, the dog seems to like the car. He didn't like going in my old coupe, but we went out yesterday with him in the hatch and he was fine. I really enjoyed taking him somewhere new, too. I do need to sort out some protection for the top of the bumper from his claws, though. He likes to jump in and out, but at the moment I'm lifting him to avoid scratches!
