Anyone tell me if they have a sun band at the top of the screen, had a new one fitted and it doesn't have any shading at the top, but is a rain sensitive screen.

yep - got one on mine, blue/green tint.
2004 - Vec SRi
Yeah I thought so, I know what they've done, they had issues with the suppliers and got one in from another supplier and forgot to say it had a band in it, oh well live and learn, still gotta see if they have managed to not break the sensor as well yet.
Try pouring water over the sensor, it should mke the wipers work, or even spray water out of oun of those garden sprayer things.
My Vec originally didn't have the sunstrip.
It got replaced about 2 months ago cos it broke and they kindly fitted one with the sunstrip. I think I remember telling them i thought it had one when i rang up to book the fitting. Ooops, I was wrong....
No rain sensor on mine anyway.
won't work with constant water Ian, you have to flick it at the sensor. and i may be wrong, but the wipers won't come on by themselves.
the way i checked to see if the rain sensor was working was to leave the window open and double lock the car. if the sensor senses any rain it'll close up the window.
got caught out once with a slightly open window in milton keynes when it started pelting it down, got back to the car and thankfully it had closed the window.
LS.
GM stopped having sunstrips on the Vec/Signum around 2004/5. You'll see any car after that age will have no sunstrip.
Only way to get a sunstrip is to go for the pattern part. When I had a screen replaced a long time ago I wanted to have the GM one, so accepted that I'd lose the sunstrip. Regretted it as I missed the sunstrip, so when it needed replaced again some time later, I went for the pattern part with the strip. It will work with constant water. Simply flick the stalk to get into normal rain sensitive mode and fire away with a hosepipe - wipers will flick immediately. If not, then they either haven't connected your sensor up again, or they've knackered it during fitting!
