    Default Secondary Schools

Don't know if anyone else has been going through the trauma of finding out which school their kids have been allocated.

We had to apply last year and with in reality a choice of two schools (the best and worst in the area) I wrote a thesis on why we wanted the little fella to go to our school of choice.
Well the letter came on Saturday and he's in

However three of our friends have not been so lucky and have been allocated the worst.

It's pants. Kids futures decided by a 150 line application form

It is a total nightmare - I openly admit that my boys are only at the school I wanted them at (which is 12 miles away ) because we told the school that they live with their Dad (who still lives in the village where the school is) We are totally outside of the catchment area, but there was no way I was moving them - they had been at the feeder primary school and all their friends were there, but initially we were offered a place for my eldest at the roughest school with the worst reputation for drung/bullying/exam failures in the area!!!

We wrote to the council and told them that the boys had gone to live with their Dad (as if I was no longer in the family picture ) as this was the only way to get them into the good school. Fortunately we should be moving back into the area soon anyway, so I guess it isn't so dishonest, but it bugs me that you have to resort to this to get a decent education.

My best friend has just had my godson rejected from the primary school at the end of her road, and has instead been given a place at a school five miles away, to which she will have to drive him every day. And then the Government have the cheek to whinge about the number of parents driving their kids to school instead of walking!!! Doesn't sound too eco-friendly to me somehow!!!

Every sympathy with you mate - it is a pain in the backside!!! Well done for your lad getting in though - which school is he going to then?

If you want to know how really bad it is, try reading It's Your Time You're Wasting: A Teacher's Tales of Classroom Hell by Frank Chalk.

An amazing book but you'll need a defibrillator...

my old secondary school has high fences, cctv and a resident constable with his own police office, actually inside the school building. I am not saying we were angels when we were at school, but who in their right mind would allow there children to attend a school like that. It wasnt that rough when i attended, or maybe its just that back then we responded to discipline.
Either that or the rose tinted specs of advancing years

I sometimes wonder why our fore fathers pushed back the Jack boot in both World Wars. What would they think now? Was it worth it for how we have become ?

I didn't either. Can't wait for the lying, tax raising, petty law making, money squandering cnuts to be voted out.
