    Default MP3 Upgrade?

Hi, my first post here on the forum apart from my introduction, so apologies if it's already been covered off!

I've got a 2004 Vectra SRi which has the CDR2005 (Siemens EDO) head unit it. As a CD player it's ok (though lacking mid range I think, anyone?) but my car is beginning to look like an illegal CD market stall with CDR discs all over the place, most of which are now scratched to ******y making all my music jump.

Is there a simple upgrade I can do to make the unit MP3 compatible? Or if not, could I swap out the head unit for an MP3 capable one? I'm keen to retain a Vauxhall one purely for aesthetics. Also, if I could get my little screen to say what the song is (I had a bog standard Corsa courtesy car the other week with a CD30 that told me the song names on a normal CD even!) that would be a nice touch!!

If it's as simple as taking out the CDR2005 and popping in a matching MP3 enabled jobby than great stuff, but if not, any suggestions would be more than welcome.

    Kindest regards,
    Phil

You're not going to get an MP3 compatible player in there without either going aftermarket, or considering an Ipod attachment.

I've got the Alpine 9850ri in mine, which actually looks pretty good, as long as you get the correct coloured surround from VX - about £28 if memory serves. This can use the steering controls and display on the main screen. Also, it is Ipod ready, via a lead you can place in the glovebox or wherever and the sound output is greatly improved.

Have a look on ebay - there's also a CD30MP3 unit, which appear fairly regularly on there.

Thanks for the advice guys. Would the CD30MP3 be a straight swap out/in?

    Kind regards,
    Phil

It would be a tech 2 job. Tech 2 yours out, tech 2 the new one in.

Perhaps not impossible but surely no straight swap because the newer units are CanBus... have a search in some older threads about the same subject over here

The 2005 doesn't need to be tech 2 ed plus the 2005 is half canbus and the cd30 is full canbus isn't it?. There is the 2006 option that I mentioned in your thread on V sport mate.

LOL just read the original post PROPERLY this time and saw that it's a 2004 car which is indeed half CAN. The CD30 uses the quadlock system and is full CAN therefore I would think that it would be a no go. Therefore you are back to the after market option I'm afraid
