Hope it's not what I think!

Hi guys.

Last night I noticed that when pulling away from 1st to 2nd gear and sometimes going from Reverse to 1st that there is a bit of a knock coming from the front.

Does this sound like it could be the rear engine mount?

If so, my car is out of warranty and so it'll be coming out of my own pocket to fix. It's an 03 GSi (1st Registered July 03) and has just gone through 18,700 miles - how much do you think this'll cost to fix? Is it an easy job, something just being tightened???

Hi m8.

Yes, when accelerating fairly briskly.

E.g. 2nd gear at 20mph and a quick flick of the accelerator upto 30mph and it knocks.

Funnily enough, once the car was warmed up, I didn't hear it again.

you may want to ask one of the moderators but it sounds like the start of the dual mass flywheel starting to go !! eek ! although i'm not sure if the 3.2 uses this system !?? but if it is ! prepare for a hefty bill !

dont jump too quick ! as i said , not sure if it runs that type of clutch ! but as you asked ! cost me £592 for parts at trade , fitted myself buuuut my local garage charges 160+ vat which is price to change a clutch ! for VX to do it ?????

i know how you feel fella ! my 2.2 was like it when i bought it ! i was thinking , its just a mount ! how wrong can you be ! but if you can feel the wobble through your clutch foot as you go to pull away !? dont rule out the clutch as the fault !! let me know how you get on dude !

I don't feel anything through the clutch, it's just a knocking sound and jolt from the front.

It disappeared though once the engine was warm. - Weird!?

The car hasn't even done 19K in nearly 4 years too and I treat my car with the respect she deserves! You'd have thought the V6 would be upto higher stresses!

The car needs a service so I'll get them to check.

Are engine mounts just as expensive though?
