Default Newb just got a 1.9 CDTi Signum

Hello all, ive just purchased a 04 signum that was a trade in and traded in my Cherokee 4.0Ltr. Thing is when I went to collect it the other day I got a few miles down the road and it started to overheat.

Not a good start im sure you will agree.

All I can say to diagnose the fault was that I had taken the car out for about a hour on a test drive and it was fine, then when I had sorted the finance and gone home and come back again the car was ready so I took it out, went 3 miles and stopped with the engine off. About 15 mins later I drove another mile in which time I had the air con on, and had been playing with the trip computer. Then suddently the temperature shot up and its got the warning light on the dash so I immediatly stop and turn off the engine. When I ignition on (car off) again the fan kicks in and cools the engine to around about 70ish. I try driving normally and the temp rises. So I repeat my last steps. They once cooled again I try driving again but this time using very low revs and speed. It seems to be fine for a longer distance but ends up with the same overheating. When examining the bonnet the water is boiling in the overflow tank and highly pressured yet the radiator is coldish.

So the car went back to the dealer on the back of a lorry and he delivered my traded in car back to me so I could carry on motoring.

Not a good start and im bothered now about the car.

    Any advice???
