    Unhappy Burning smell / overheating

Was just about to go to work tonight when driving down the road i got a strong burning smell a loud whiring noise (like another turbo) and my car majorly overheated.
Pulled over popped bonnet and no smoke or nowt.
Loosened coolant cap halfway to release pressure and watched my coolant all vanish ......
Then it bubbled back up ????
Smell seems to be coming from timing cover which was very hot ???
Also forgot to say heaters in car were blowing cold dispite temp gauge reading nearly 100 ???
Car has now done 81 k so is way way out a warranty !

    Any help appreciated !!

    Cheers

it sounds like you've got a water circulaition issue.. like a failed water pump..it's boiled up, but if the heater is cold then all you are getting is the engine heating the water, but not moving it round...

prepare for a wallet beating and get the engine looked at with a veiw to a failed waterpump..if you're lucky it will escape needing a headgasket as well..

    Cheers Gsi,
Looks like ya right just had my mechanic on says water pump has seized causing tensioner to fail and belt started to come of rubbing against timing casing giving burning smell .
He says head gasket seems ok but need new belt rollers and water pump.
Reckons if a had drove another hundred yards a would have needed a new engine !!!!!!
    Quite lucky then really !

Any one else had this trouble ?

    Thanks mate

Think this is the problem ive had, timing belt has been rubbing against the casing & coolent is pouring out the bottom (guess from the water pump). I had smoke too though so not sure what other damage has been done
