Guys, I might have a problem with the VXRD......

Bit of a long one this....

Last week, whilst heading over to Marshalls of Leicester, a warning light came up on the dashboard.

It was the yellow symbol which shows an oil can with a wavey line underneath. So I guessed it was oil pressure, or oil level warning.

So, although the oil level seemed low (not below the minimum on the stick) I topped it up with a quarter of a litre. The oil light then dissapeared and I thought nothing of it.

Until today.......

I was out with VectraV6CDTi (Andy) showing him how quick the VXRD can be , and whilst accelerating uphill, I suddenly lost power, and spotted heavy greyish smoke bellowing out from the exhausts.. Not so I couldnt see through it, but noticable enough to put two and two together, and for it to cause me concern. No warning lights on the dash !! and the temperatures were normal.

It reminded me of the old days, when I used to just keep topping up the oil in my MKII ford escort rather than do a full oil change. The oil then 'broke down' to such a point that it burned at high revs and produced smoke out the exhaust.

Any ideas ???

Also, when I got back home, I did another oil check and all was fine. I then went out again and it seemed much better and power was back to normal (but there was still some smoke, not as bad, but still there).

The oil was changed in September (as part of its first service) and I've done around 8-9,000 miles since.

Do I just need to get a full oil change, or could it be something more sinister ??
