I think he's saying that the Glowplug relay is U/S benny, hence, if he bridges out the battery to the glowplug power rail it will glow the plugs and start really easily..

i'll stratch my head for a while and have a brew.. maybe it's location will come back to me...it is definatly under the bonnet thou..

bennie its like gsi 3.2 said if i turn on the key its not sending a live to the glow plug rail hence no heat to glow the plugs but if i run a piece of wire from rail to live termnal its ok and warms the glow plugs and starts, ???????????????

    confused

I don't know the actual engine setup that well, but the glow plugs should warm up for x amount of time from when you turn the ignition on, they will stay on longer if the engine is colder, so obviously there is some kind of measurement circuit that powers the glow plugs for a time proportional to the temperature of the engine.

Obviously this circuit isn't working, so the fault may actually lie in a sensor that is reporting that the engine is already warm when it isn't - on a warm engine, the glow plugs don't activate at all.

Sorry I can't help any more than this, just that the fault is not necessarily on the actual glow plug circuit but with whatever activates this circuit.

They don't have to, no.. it's all down to if the ECU says it needs to..

but if it won't start without glowing, it obviously needs to..
