    Default getting springs fitted tomorrow...

.....ive bought some springs from a member here.

however he told me that when he fitted them to his vec originally they made a banging noise....so he was told by G-max to take the "spring mod" off which is the small rubber sleeve on the bottom coil.

i am fitting these to my car tomorrow but when i told my mate at the garage he said this spring mod usually STOPS the banging....any1 got any advise...leave it on or take it off?

    thanx!

Leave it on, might be that his shocks weren't up to the job. Did they come off an Sri or 'comfort' model? 'Standard' shocks on an LS or other non-sports model may not have been uprated enough to handle shorter/harder springs. Sri ones should be ok as long as the drop isn't rediculous.

Is that 40mm over standard ride height or 40mm over Sri height? Bear in mind the Sri is already 15mm lower than standard. If it's 40mm over Sri ride height, you may well need uprated shocks.

Also check the ends of the springs to make sure there's no ends broken off.

how can you see if the ends have snapped - is it obvious?

compare them to each other and if one is shorter..

the spring mods should only be fitted to the fronts, the rears don't need them as they sit on 2 rubber mounts.Depending on the car it may or may not have them fitted already

right checked springs - dont seem snapped at all luckily. however the rear ones seem shorter than the fronts, or at least the seem more"compressed" - is that normal?
