    Default Help with servicing

Hello people. I'm just starting to get quotes for the 3rd year service on my SRI 1.9 CDTI from Vx dealers. The 2 quotes so far are as follows:Vantage in Bury £147.
    Pentagon in Royton £178!.
When i asked the service at Royton what they did for this he said "Oil and filter change and level check".

Now i think this is a lot of money for this and being as the cars out of warranty this year i'm thinking of getting a local to do the job, with me getting the parts from Vx.
If i go down this road which parts will i need and what will the approx cost be? Or should i use Vx, as a local wont have any diagnostic eqiuptment?

I am not a big fan or dealers, as they charge FAR too much for changing oil and filter IMO. (yes I understand economics too)

For mine (04 - 1.8 petrol, so WILL be different from yours) the long life oil and filter is £30 over the counter. I do it myself, and always have.

Diagnostic ? Why is it necessary?? I don't think it is, but I am sure someone will come along and disagree. Mine has now done 60,000 and NEVER been to VX for anything other than warranty (clutch collapse and busted radio).

I also don't intend to take it there for anything. Too many times I hear of people who have not had issues, then go to main dealer and it starts to fail for different reasons. Are they connected?? Who can prove anything, but it does sound sus to me.

Old addage, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' works for me.

I'm with STE on this one...get it done locally as they can now use whatever parts you like as the warranty has expired..save yourself a ton of cash and don't worry about the diagnostic side of things..it'll soon tell you if it needs to go on to tech2..
