Default Low pressure fuel pump not working

    Good afternoon all,

just got the engine assembly back on after changing the egr pipe work and cleaning map sensor but the car won't start..

if I crank it the car turns over and fires once every two to three seconds. It looks and sounds like the fuel pump relay or pump is not energises. I've check the relay off the car and it work.

any idea why pump/relay is not working?

is there anywhere to get a wiring diagram for a vectra c 3.0 cdti y30dt? Can't find anything on the net.

    cheers

    ben.

Tried topping up fuel filter but it looked full anyway. Then decided to change fuel filter, topped up again and tried. Same thing, with it cranking and only getting the odd fire.

i don't think fuel is the problem as I hadn't touched the circuit. All that was removed was the battery box, top inlet manifold section to get access to MAP sensor and remove exhaust shields around EGR pipe. Ecu or injector module wasn't removed and I replaced the 4-5 sensors plug I removed during strip down.

When you turn the ignition on and the normal lights come on. When cranking, the engine light remains lit, which I think is normal and there are no error messages coming up. Checked for codes and none present?

first diesel I have owned and as there appears to be no circuit diagrams about for a Y30DT I'm struggling how to diagnose the fault. (No spark to check for). Gonna try cold start spray tomorrow down the inlet to see if it actual runs and maybe bleed the fuel line through.

had the car two weeks now and only driven for one. Trust me to buy a smoker......

What are you reading codes with?

Go back an recheck all the sensor plugs
All intake and related parts are fited correctly?

Three engine warning lights remain on, until the engine turns over twice, after which only the handbrake warning light should be on
Therefore can you confirm which engine warning light is staying on?

If you have disconnected the fuel pump, then treat it the same as renewing the fuel filter
Turn the engine over for a maximum of 10 seconds, then wait 10 seconds
    Repeat if required
    Repeat if required
The engine should now start, but may idle erractically and/or stop, this is normal
Once it is idling as normal, leave for at least 5 minutes, then switch off
Again, it may switch off, but it shouldn't do it more than twice
    It should then start normally

    YOU ARE A GOD !!!!

followed the starting procedure above and on the 4th attempt she fired into life...

why did the car not start with long bouts of continuous cranking?

its bellowing out loads of dark grey smoke when rev'd a bit but I'm not surprised with all the cranking I've done yesterday.

thank you everyone involved in this post with your help and recommendations. Good to know there is a specific forum of owners happy to help/advise

hopefully I won't be on again for a while and can have some problem free driving.

    Ben...

It is a low pressure inlet
This draws fuel from the fuel tank very slowly
When the fuel system is de-pressurised (such as removing the fuel filter housing cap) the system needs to be re-pressurised
You could leave the engine to crank over continuously but you could overheat the starter motor, and so create other issues
Therefore the advice is to complete the re-pressurisation in several short bursts
