    Default Duff petrol

Notice on the GMTV news this morning about the petrol situation down in the South of the country, as per the earlier thread on this subject. Seems a bigger problem than was first thought. Early reports say they can't find anything wrong with the petrol!! they would say that of course. Just hope every one gets sorted out ok in the end.

I noticed in the other thread you mentioned using SUL - I've always gone with standard UL in my car - how much of a difference do you find using SUL and did you have to get anything adjusted on the car to allow for SUL?

What do others use on the 3.2? Just curious 'cos I've always thought it goes OK on the standard stuff and I get an average of over 30 MPG (albeit with the majority of motorway cruising).

I'm sure this has already been mentioned but BP SUL is completely unaffected by this problem...according to the man on the news!
Mind you saying that, according to the Tesco PR man there is no problem

Was at a mates garage (non dealer) this morning. They had a Vectra B & a Zafira A in cos of fuel in town. His mechanic came off the phone & said there's a Merc coming in for it now. She'd filled up at the Tescos I used yestreday on Sunday so hopefully I've had another batch by yesterday. I only squeezed £32 in so wasn't quite empty & then went & topped it back up today at a BP incase I have the duff fuel I'm diluting it down.

Does anyone know how long till the effects would appear. The woman with the Merc said hers wasn't right the following day.

Seems to just be regular unleaded that is affected.

Pretty quickly - as soon as the 'contaminated' fuel starts to go through the engine. So would depend on how much fuel you had in the tank in the first place as that would dilute the contaminated fuel a bit.

Use Shell Vpower, nothing adjusted on the car.

    John at http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/t..._Results.shtml

has done some testing of different fuels to see if higher octanes are wasted on modern cars or if they do indeed give a greater power output. The conclusion was that Tesco 99 octane is the best to use and does give more power to the car. I switched to Tesco 99 octane with my VX220 and now with the Signum and I have no problems. I noticed the difference with the VX220 but since I've had the Signum I haven't used anyting else so can't really make the comparison.

Let your tank get really low and give it a tankful to see !!

Same here. I'd tried other SUL brands and stuck with Esso SUL as the car ran nicely with it. It didn't like Shell Optimax. When Tesco 99 RON appeared at my local Tesco I started using that and I noticed more of a difference over the Esso SUL and have stuck with it ever since.
