    Thumbs down Dti cold start problems

    hello peeps, as above really, my 2.0 dti has developed a cold start problem. It will turn over without heating, but is really lumpy for a second or two then quits. another try with abit of pump on thr throttle usually gets it started with a massive cloud of black smoke. I was wondering if it was a number of problems including;-Glow plugs (but it doesn't always need heat due to outside temp)-Air in the fuel lines (A problem on vec B's i think/no major leaks visable from injectors or return pipes)-Poor fuel (i'm guilty of filling my last 2 tanks at morrisons, and the problem has arrose!)Hopefully its just ****e diesel from morrisons , but is poor starting a common problem on the dti?     it sounds like it still needs/wants to glow...so if you've done a round/over 50,000 miles, i'd change the glowplugs and check the 12V feed to them..

    if you think it's poor diesel , have yoy tried the fuel fiter to see if there's water in the fuel..try a drain of it to see..However bad fuel would cause bad running all the time.. this is deffo a glowplug/coldstart issue..did it glow in the recent cold weather?

    thanks gsi, yes it did glow in the cold snap, and i started fine. but on a da like today, where it is reasonably warm out, it will not glow obviously, but will struggle to start. I think you're right with the plugs though. as it runs fine when running, same old dti, its just the starting thats a problem!! I've still got some network q warranty so i'll dump it back down the dealers me thinks! Again! Only just got it back!

    No leaks at present form the pipes. But, it was frosty yesterday morning, and it heated, and started fine. The problem deffo occurs when its not cold enough to heat so it doesn't and won't start properly.

    Injector seals.
    Pop off the covers, get to the injectors and carefully give them a tighten. If this cures the problem replace the seals, jobs a goodun. Easy DIY job, a garage will charge you up to £100 to do it.

    What we found was the rubber pipes on the injectors had started to perish and leaking diesel
    So when you came to start her no diesel in the injectors so a bad cold start
    Told this form a VX micky and it worked

    So theres some thing else to think about
