    Eek Had a bad day in Scotland with my new tyres

    Set off at 06:30 this morning for Edinburgh. Got upto Greenlaw and there was some light snow around, moved on up towards Lauder and it got worse and worse, 3 inches or so and the road hadn't been gritted and
    BANGand hit an accident traffic jam

    Only had the tyre fitted on Thursday and only covered 500 miles on it. So now stuck in traffic due to 3 cars making love to trees with the police telling everyone to stay in their cars. An hour later the police had got the road reopened, a kind policeman helped me put my spacesaver on, this is 10:30am by now, so I turned round and headed for home trying to stick to 40mph ish. Got back to the stealers, another £150 for a new tyre, phoned Michelin to complain and arranged for the tyre to be sent to Stoke for examination. finally got home at 2:30pm 8 hours later, have been nowhere, spent a fortune. At least it was only the tyre and not the rim or the car, but scary. Reset my trip computer for the trip home and got wait for it;

    Can you guess,

    It's a high number now,

    59.6MPG WOW over 90 miles.
    But I can't sustain driving at 40mph everywhere though. I can't wait to get rid of that spacesaver. Has anyone got a 16", 17" or 18" rim they don't want, I am not ever going through that again. The ride home felt like when you look at an F1 car with 3 wheels.

    Holy **** !!!

    Look at the state of that tyre... You are so lucky not to trash the car.

    Hope you get it all sorted....

    I picked up a set of vectra B 16" twinblades - usefull when you want to clean / refurbish your alloys but also as a decent spare wheel. You can get em quite cheap now.

    Would you belive around 35 mph. You couldn't go much faster because of the snow on the road. You could feel the back end twitching all the time, thank god for all the saftey features ESP, TC etc, etc

    Looks like a catastrophic failure all around the sidewall, could be heat related.

    e.g. low inflation pressure for some reason, heat builds up in sidewall, maybe sliding around in the snow doesn't help, then BANG.

    Jeeeeezuz H!!!! That's one messed up tyre!!!!

    You say you only had it fitted on Thursday. What load rating have they fitted? That looks suspiciously like it's been the wrong rating!

    91W, remember all the posts we had about this, should they be XL or shouldn't they. I had Michelin, the dealer & VXCC all confim this rating was ok which is why I got the dealer to fit them rather than kwiky fitty or some other bunch. It's off to the Techy boys to examine it in Stoke and I've already sent the bill off to Michelin tonight. £150 for the tyre & £150 to refurb the alloy.

    BTW, I also found out today that ATS is a sister company of Michelin

    Ah yes, I remember the thread now. 91W, as you say, will be correct. Sounds like a dodgy tyre then!
