Default Forgot how to be Fast !!!

I had to disconnect the car battery when AndyVec kindly fitted the new Irmscher steering wheel, and I swear the car is running a little slower than before, only fractionally, but noticable to me.

Has it 'lost' its memory on how to drive fast ??

Do I need to relearn the ECU by driving hard again ??

    Sensible comments welcome.

To be absolutely honest, I am very sceptical about ECU learning driving style.

If this is not simple sales talk, then how do VX get the car through type approval, esp with emissions?

(and yes, i FULLY understand how emissions tests are done - it is my line of work)

My car is the opposite, I certainly think it is quicker now than when I picked it up, I wasn`t overly impressed by the speed when I first drove it (It had been the MD`s car at the garage and he was about 101 years old) . Now it feels very quick, yet usually a car feels slower after you get use to it?? It only had 7000 miles on it when I got it so maybe it is just loosening up though ...

I think you're right Steve, let the ECU re-learn your driving style.

If I've been pottering around for a couple of days and then decide to give the car a proper drive it does feel slower initially.

It sounds to me that Tommy's car is loosening up very nicely too.

Not sure about the diesels, but on the vxr, it will adapt to fuel quality over a few tankfuls. Keep chucking in Texaco super, and it will get faster by increments, up to a point, until either it forgets (ooops) or you get desperate and fill up with Tesco bog standard unleaded.

At which point you start again.

No idea if there is a similar process with oil burners.

I put BP Ultimate Diesel in mine and I can definatly tell the difference with it in. Its not miles quicker, but a slight noticable difference, definatly.

Nah that's just because your car (wallet) is lighter after paying for the Ultimate
