Yes but if you get enjoyment out of it then cost doesn't matter

    January - changed the NGK BKR5QUPA spark plugs after 8 years & 67+K miles..these replaced the original Vx/Bosch original plugs @ 4years from new...just fitted 4 x NGK ZFR 5F plugs..
A week or so later changed the thermoststat bellows in the housing as the coolant temperature gauge had been reading 10-12 degrees lower than it should for about 12 months...used a clearance special off ebay
& a special shaped "O- ring/seal" again off ebay..each item less than £6.00...so job done..for £12.00 some of my time..a couple of grazed knuckles & a sprinkling of expletives...car warms up quickly now to the delight of Jackie my wife and a week or so later replaced the perished aerial base gasket seal with the one mentioned in the excellent "Easy way How 2" for a Mark 5 Golf from Car Masts UK...other things are on going..the most frustrating is the flooding of the drivers side footwells both front & rear which I've mentioned in another thread....not from the scuttle panel drain holes as they are checked & cleaned 2-3 times a year..the amount of water made me think it was coming fro places other than the radio aerial base..roof moulding clip rivets appear tight..wheel well in the boot is dry...not yet checked the rear quarter windows...what a start to 2018 eh??

Stopped decorating and went to pick up the new Febi pro kit toe control arms as I asked mine to be checked whilst doing the other work and they are seized beyond help. Not for longer
It also transpired in their wisdom GM fitted the earlier not so good solid rubber bushed banana arms to mine So much for Vxr greatness eh?

Today I changed the AF40 gearbox oil, first time after fitting the new gearbox back in 2016. The old oil looked very good, but it needed changing. Covered only ~20.000 miles.
    Very happy with today's work.

Maybe tomorrow will be the rear suspension day. I'll see how I get up in the morning.
