    After the above i treated mine to new glowplugs that I got at a bargain price of £9.20 including vat for 4 new bosh ones... can't complain about that, than went and tanked it up to the brim

    Clunk hunt has taken a turn for the worse today.
    So this clunk, its a short, sharp knock that I get whenever I accelerate sharply and then get it again when I decelerate sharply (it wouldn't happen if I accelerated sharply again instead of decelerating)
    It only started after I changed the gearbox and the fact that its when accelerating and decelerating makes me think its something shifting forwards and backwards, so somethings loose. My thoughts have been the steering rack bolts or one of the cv joints after I went back over all of the suspension and made sure all bolts were tight.

    Check the drive shafts first and the O/S one does make a small noise when I move it backwards and forwards so thought aha, I've found it and will get a new one on order.
    Decide to look st the steering rack anyway as steering been heavy and notice that where the thread of the bolt is protruding about 7mm underneath on the N/S, I can't even see the thread on the O/S and can only just reach it with my finger in the nut. Look on top and there's load of thread up there which again is the opposite of the N/S so now I'm really confused, looks like one of the bolts is upside down but I'm sure I only loosened the bolt when changing the gearbox and not remove it, add to that the the O/S one looks really loose but I can't get access as the subframe doesn't seem to want to drop down, stays in place when I take the bolts out, and yes I'd loosened the bolts on the other side.

    Need to spend a bit more time on it than I had today working it out, and maybe ultimately swapping the steering rack as I shagged one of the ball joint pin threads as well.

    I don't ****** believe it, I'd resigned myself to not being clunk-less for another few weeks and gone to pick the kids up from nursery.

    NO CLUNK! This makes even less sense

    If you replaced gearbox go over every bolt you removed. Subframe, mounts, did you remove p/s shock/caliper. Try with handbrake on 1st and reverse. Is gearbox over worn with to much slack.

    So what I did today is buy it

    I'll be coming back soon: full cleaning and paint treatment, tinted glass (it's already slightly tinted, but I'll check if it can be made darker), probably radio swap for a Chinese Android one, changin the phone thingy to the cup holder, fixing the back ashtray, adding rear view camera... quite a lot to do to leave it to my liking.

    @RichM This is nice but.... slap a big turbo on it and see that HP and torque go higher with at least 40%

    It would be a supercharger if I go forced induction. Love that whine.

    Turbo is more flexible but I get it any form of induction will give the same 40% power gain.. and that will be the safer solution... supercharger whine with a lumpy v8 at idle is sick!

    Should see something around 600 - 650 with a charger.
