Default Can you put a trip computer in any Vectra?

    Hi Guys,

My Vectra SXi DTi has the standard multi function display (time, date etc). I believe it was an optional extra to have a trip computer.

My question is, can I install a trip computer into my car myself? If so, would it have to have come from a SXi DTi itself, or would one from a different engine car work?

My educated guess is that it would have to be from another 2.0 DTi Vectra otherwise the figures for fuel consumption etc would be way out?

Would the loom not already be installed? I thought it might have been a case of just swapping over the standard display with the computer.

I asked the same question a while back as I found the screen unit & indicator stalk for £40 delivered. But was told it was a big job as the conectors for the stalk & screen unit are different & I didn't want to do any cutting ETC.

Mine came without a trip computer but it had the BC page with a timer on it. I asked about getting it upgraded and a very nice man spent a little time looking at wiring diagrams for me and said yes. He pluged in the Tech 2 and 5 minutes latter I had 2 trip coputer readouts for free! What a nice man, only real result I've ever had from Vauxhall.

Go down and ask Vx to have a look at the wiring diagrams you may already have everything there and just need to have it reprogramed (especially if it is a limited edition one).

Buggeer at earlier responses. £40 sounds like a bargain for the display and stalk, shame you couldn't get them to fit though.

@ nutron. What sort of display did you have to start off with?

Took me a while to find this old thread

I thought it was a bargain as well, it was off a 2004 sri in silver that was breaking on ebay I think quite a few people got items from it on here. someone got the full front bumper with grills & spots for £150 if I remember correct & it was a proper breakers.

Wow that sounds great, a stereo with a built in trip computer. So you got this screen to act as a computer, unlocked by vaux for free? Maybe this'll be a better option than to try and fit a computer display.
