Following on from this thread (where I took out the Network Q warranty in June for a year once my Vx warranty finished), I'd been wondering lately if I should have taken out the two years at the time - as you can only take the extension out once.
I wasn't 100% sure when I took it out how long I'd have the car for, but I'm very happy with it and got some plans for it so I definitely see myself having it well into next year. So with the Network Q extension I took out running out in June, that would obviously leave me with no cover from then onwards.
I rang Network Q a week or so ago to ask about being able to make it two years. The guy, unsurprisingly, told me I couldn't - so I asked if a manager/supervisor may be able to ring me back as they are the ones that make the decisions. He said he'd pass on my details.
Rang again today to follow it up and found out that they had e-mailed the underwriters to see if they would do it, but hadn't had a reply back. The woman I spoke to said she'd ask her manager and the reply came back no. I asked if I could maybe have a word with him. So she put me through.
I'm not sure if the woman had explained clearly, but I explained to him my request. That I wanted to see if I could have the second year of cover which I would obviously pay for. I'm not sure if the woman thought I was trying to get the second year for nothing!! As I was using their ten monthly (interest free) instalments for the initial extension I took out, I'd be happy to pay the difference for the second year in a lump sum. He had a think for a moment and said that as the underwriter's couldn't make a decision (or bother to get back to him) he'd make the decision for them and agreed!!
Perseverance pays off, as well as talking to the people who can make the decisions!
So I paid the £489 for another year and it's now covered under Network Q until June 2008! Muchos piece of mind to have the car fully covered for all the time I'm going to have it - especially as it's in the 50,000+ area that more things may need attention.
Since taking out the extension last year, the car has had a few bits and pieces of work done to it that has more than made the extension worthwhile. The advantage of the warranty is that when the car goes in for any little niggles/faults the dealer just puts it to them and usually gets work/parts authorised. If it turns out that it hasn't been cured by that work then I don't feel I've been swizzled by paying for work that may not have solved the problem.
So, nice one Network Q!
