Now I'm a big believer in being optomistic but when people quote 200bhp from just a remap I raise an eyebrow. I've recently looked at someones results on vec-c.com (if you're here put your hand up), they had 150bhp at the road wheel which converted to over 180 I think it was at the fly. Now that in itself is a bit high, over 20% losses seems unlikely unless he was glued to the rolling road... Then they went on to DIN70020 correct the figure for atmospheric pressure and temperaure, the next thing you know, the tuning companys are claiming 200.5bhp!!!!
Wel firstly, DIN70020 gives bhp in metric not imperial which would mean it's only 198bhp and only theoritically in an atmosphere of 1.12 bar and 290K or something like that. What a load of hog swill! The car made 150bhp. That's it, that's all you're getting to the road so that's all that counts.
How can people make educated dissicions about what tuning parts/packages to buy for their beloved beasts when the data they base their dicision on is so obscured?
If mine and Harry's road wheel figures had been DIN70020 corrected, we would have been looking at 226bhp and 252bhp respectivly?!? I'd like to claim 226bhp, would you like to claim 252bhp Harry? But this is reality, and that isn't.
I'm not ranting at anybody here, just a system that is so confused and inacurate. I suspect my 213bhp may have been DIN corrected as it was a hot day and I'm now getting more out of her for sure.
