Default Cheap Diesel - Noisy Engine?

As above....I've been using BP Ultimate diesel since I had the car nearly a year ago. Got caught very short last week in an unfamiliar area, and plumped for Tesco diesel rather than gambling the flashing fuel light any longer!

Since then, the engine sounds much more 'rattly', and when I put my foot down, it's noticeably noisier. No obvious difference in performance...

    Any ideas?

    Default Diesal Choice...

I run my 1.9 Vectra SRI CDTI on SHELL fuel all the time and I can't complain - car runs grand for me...

To be honest I always look for the brand name on the garages - such as - SHELL, BP, STATOIL etc etc...

    SHELL works for me anyway...

I ran my last 2 diesels only on supermarket fuel (Asda cos it's very near to me) and never noticed anydifference if I had to fill up with the likes of BP etc.

Prob nothing to be concerned about. When you revert back to the normal, see if the noise goes away again.

They all conform to EN 590 anyway.

strange as all the fuel come from the same source

take the fuel terminal at trafford park manchester:- tesco, asda, texaco, esso & several independent oil companies operate out of there,
they all hook up to the same taps.
the fuel terminal in nottingham BP, shell, sainsburys, morrisons and other independant companies go from there.

They may well all hook up from there (I know what you mean, did lots of work from RWD other side of the fence), but it's the additives they add to the fuel in the tanker which make the difference.

Hi Paul , i agree with you on the different fuels and the way your engine runs on them ! it has been reported that there is or has been some pretty naf fuel about, i try to stick with Sainsburys diesel ! my last oil burner was a Mondeo and it didnt like Asda fuel, ran very course and became extra rattly ! took two or three tank fulls of Sainsbrys to get back to norm, a lot of people have recommended unpluging the battery so the ecu resets itself, this can sort out a lot of running faults, ive been told it adjusts and can pick up bad habbits etc. hope its running sweeter soon

It might just be in your mind, I use ESSO most of the time, seems to give the best mileage, BP I just don't rate,SHELL seems to make the car feel better but I seem to lose 4 mpg using it, again most of this is probably in my mind also.
