Default Rough running with KaN air filter

    Vectra c newby !
A big hello to everyone, I'm new to this site and new to owning a Vectra, my last car was a Mondeo ( CAN I SAY THAT ! ) which had its good points and with out a doubt had its bad ones. My Vectra however has certainly proven most of the criticts to be biast against one manufacturer to another ! i am pleased with the 1.9 cdti 150 its smother and quieter than my previous diesel and the handling feels very good. i have just fitted a K&N pannel air filter but after a day i've taken it back out and re fitted the old one ! the engine ran very roughly and the power delivery felt jerky and inconsistent ( should i have given it a bit longer for the ecu to adjust ? ) my other concern, if it is one, is when trying to get through the gears with a bit of welly it feels like there is a bit of back lash in the drive train ! this could be normal or me not being that good at the cog swopping ! ! any comments or help would be really appreciated.
    Cheers Kcs

do a search on this site and you might find that people have 'reset' the ECU after swapping the filter with some fairly impressive results.

by disconnecting the battery you might find the car performs better with the K&N.

give and it a go, it won;t cost you anything and definitely worth a try, especially as you've it now

Thanks Harry will try that, i have just read some info on ( how to fit a K&N ) which i think i did ok but one thing i didn't do was remove the plastic cover in the bottom of filter box ! could this also be better for air intake ?

it's not absolutely necessary when fitting a K&N air filter, but people have noticed some benefits when do so.

you gotta be a bit forceful with it when pulling it out, but don't worry it won't break.

try disconnecting the battery after fitting it again and see whether it makes a difference or not

Hi again to all above who gave me some tips on my air filter, well i've plopped the K&N back in an also removed the plastic cover in the bottom of the box, i havn't as yet removed the battery leads but decided to give it a blast to check how it ran first, well all i can say is "THAT'S MORE LIKE IT !" the revs are clean and instant and its pulling wright through the range. not sure if i have the correct radio code so i will have to wait untill weekend to unplug the battery leads ! Anyway i had better go before the Mrs falls out with me again ! catch ya soon Kcs.
