After several months of running my car with the Spider Box from Diagnostix, I had to remove it after my car lobbed itself into 'Safe Mode' whilst attending a course 130miles from home.
The fault was not caused by the tuning box. What did happen thou was the best thing since I owned my Veccy C.
Since buying the car I had a niggling pause when flooring the accelerator which alot of people have commented on on this forum. WHen I fitted the Spider Box, the pause dissappeared and the performance obviously improved. However, I also felt as if I wasnt getting the best from the box and not running it on a rolling road, I had to just accept the fact.
When my car let me down, the garage diagnosed the problem (after hours of head scratching) as a faulty EGR valve which they replaced. This redirects the exhaust gases back through the cylinder to reburn them and make them nicer to the environment.
I picked the car up on thursday and had to drive it 130miles un-tuned and it felt really good. No delay what-soever under acceleration. I rang Diagnostix when I got home and they assured me that I could simply replugin the Spider and all would be well.
I refitted the box this morning and went for a quick spin. I am still smiling coz the difference is amazing.
The EGR valve must have been leaking gases or something holding back the performance coz this mornings little run felt as if I had got a rocket under the bonnet.
I am a very happy man. IF you have a 1.9CDTI engine and want more performance, the Spider box is the bees knees.
If you are not happy with the performance of your Veccy diesel engine, get the EGR valve replaced.
