you can get a loom kit from v/x that plugs into the rear electrical box on the passenger side of your boot,or you need to fit a by-pass relay with a normal loom

okay, from my experiences ( and Green growlers) if you buy the £35 VX kit that just plugs straight into the rear fuse box centre and use the VX relay that plugs into the board, you won't need to tech2 a thing..dead easy to fit as well, unless you have got an estate..in which case VX are now going to issue a seperate kit for them as the current kit is 4" too short..

It is very possible to wire up a towbar without the kit, and without Tec 2 to enable it.

Not as simple as cutting straight into wires, but not difficult to do.

The rear tail / stop lights use the same bulb and a lower voltage for tail and full 12 V for stop brightness. Hope that makes sense. The indicator wire can be simply cut into though.

When I did mine, I used the number plate bulb feed (full 12 V) to operate a relay for the tail lights, and the middle brake light (again 12V and also through a relay) to power the stop lights on the towbar hook up.

    Thats about all you need.

Left and right indicator, tail and stop. I didn't bother messing with the fog light at all.

No faults at all. This way even gets round the bulb sensor falsely triggering.

Not as easy as plug, "enable" and play. But much cheaper. My towbar was bought second hand and already had the twin electrical sockets and wiring, so I couldn't see the point with paying again for a kit and then being robbed by VX to enable it.
