confused Has anyone changed spark plugs on a 2.0T?

If so, what size socket did you use to get the plugs out?

I gave my car an interim oil and filter change yesterday and thought about changing the plugs as well as the car has now done 50,000 miles. The 80,000 quoted by Vx in the service schedule sounds a helluva long time to have spark plugs in for.

Went to take one out but despite having a huge choice of deep sockets in my socket set none of them fitted. 17mm was too big, 15mm was too small - so I assumed it may be 16mm (not a size I'd thought was common for plugs and not one in my socket set). So I zipped down to Halfords and they don't do a 16mm deep socket, in 3/8" or 1/2"

TIS quoted a tool number for getting them out. When TIS quotes a tool number it is often just a normal tool, sometimes it's a special one. Anyone know if it is a 16mm socket (if so where do I get hold of one?), or is it some special tool needed?

    Ta muchly

I thought there were onyl two sizes that were used, they are 16m/m prpbably your,s Duncan and the larger size of 13/16". I have them both if you want me to lend them to you. You will be able to get one on it,s own from Halfraurds.

If you can that'd be great. The tool quoted in TIS for removing the plugs is KM-194-E if that helps identify anything.

Thanks Ed, got your text as well. It does look like it's probably a 16mm, given that 15mm was too small and 17mm to big.
It's odd that the socket set I have (Halfords 150 piece pro set) doesn't have a 16mm deep socket in it! They don't even sell a 16mm separately, just not a size they do - either in 1/2" or 3/8" drive!

I'm going to look again this morning at the engine to see if I missed anything, as it was getting dark when I was looking last night.

Have you car a local indipendant car spares shop by you I would have thought you could have got one from there, the nearest imerial equvilent is 5/8", might fit but it is just a bit smaller dimentionally, mybe worth a try.

It's amazing what a bit of daylight can do! It was getting a bit dim the other night - as was I!

Had a look again today and once I could see better I realised that the standard 10mm spark plug socket was all that I needed. I had tried that the other night, but it didn't like it had seated properly.

Anyway, with a bit of daylight I could see better and that the 10mm socket was the one. Got them out nice and easily and got the reference number I needed off them.

Default Has anyone changed spark plugs on a 2.0T?

I had my plugs changed at vx under warranty .The car was missing a lot and the emission light came on the dash , cars only done 21,000 on an 04 plate! Seems alot shorter than vx recommend. I've been running the bsr stage 1 for about 9 months not sure if thats anything to do with it though. Anyone else had any probs?

Emission light came back on again today. About a month after they changed the plugs. The car seems to be running ok but the light stays on all the time. Taking the car in to vx tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing what they find this time! NOT.

    Any Ideas?????

i done the plugs on mine a while back - Dealer had to order them in as they were special but when i opened the GM box i found they were NGK plugs as were the ones that were already in the car so i guess only NGK do the plugs for the Sabb engine as vauxhall normally use Bosch

Yep, the plug I pulled out of mine was NGK - and the ones I picked up today were exactly the same plugs.
