Default Question for Admin/Mods - Can I name and shame

I was tempted by a great price on “too good to be true” part worn tyres on e-bay. You are never going to believe this but the usual rule applied, if it is too good to be true it usually isn’t.

Long and the short of it was that the tyres did not match the description/pics and one was actually unsafe (bad kerb damage).

I was wondering if I can post some of the advertised vs reality pics and comments in case anyone else makes the same mistake.

As long as you're careful with your wording and avoid any accusations/slander then there shouldn't be a problem.

A simple link to the ad and any of your comments may be sufficient?

Thanks Duncan. After a week of ping-pong e-mails I spoke with the boss this morning (rather than whoever sends out the tyres or responds to the e-mails) and they are going to take the tyres back – which IF they return my original payment is honouring the refund policy (apparently the higher spec tyres come from a third party?) so I can't slate the company too much as we have sorted things amicably (although return carrage is at my expence).

I will still post some pics (later today) of the tyres that were advertised as “good” as a pointer to any member who thinks about buying part worn tyres – ask the sender some questions first and don't expect top quality examples (I’ve learned my lesson).

The pics below show the 1st set of tyres.

Pic 1 is from the advert, both tyres have full diagonal cross tread patern in centre treads

Pic 2 is the deapest tread - full line across centre treads (has a puncture repair - not mentioned).

Pic 3 has lower tread, line only goes half way across centre tread

    Pic 4 shows puncture repair

    2nd set of tyres.

    All pics of same tyre

Pics 1 & 2 show 1st area of kerbing damage

Pic 3 shows 2nd area of kerbing damage

Pic 4 is a crack at the bottom of the tread

Both sets of tyres were really cheap £50 a set

well, the puncture repair is okay, but they should have mentioned it to you..the kerbing damage is just taking the P..they are so bad they are unsaleable....

just hope they come across with your money quickly for you, and not drag their heels..

Fingers crossed, will see what happens.

The puncture is a pucker repair but when I am playing on my private runway it would prey on my mind as a weak spot.

I'm just P1ssed at myself for thinking you could get a bargain. The NCTs could be useable but its not what was advertised and the contis just scare me (and that makes me feel worse about the NCTs).

I will be sticking to new in the future, you don't get bargains (I only went for it because the advert said both sets were very good condition).

Don't forget that a puncture repair limits the speed they are rated at as they no longer meet the manufacturers specs
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Did not know that Astrase20 (I just would not feel comfortable), what would be the new limits on a repaired ZR or WR rated tyre?
